Chef Forrest's Turkey Lettuce Wraps: : A Light, Healthy and Savory Meal
These turkey lettuce wraps are a light, flavorful, and healthy dish packed with savory, tangy, and crunchy goodness. Perfect as an appetizer or main course, they’re easy to make and fun to eat!
Gina often had dinners at Forrest and Mari’s during her sophomore year of college, and she always looked forward to those evenings. She loved all the meals, but this one was definitely one of her favorites. She loved it so much that she asked me to get the recipe from them. Now, it’s one of our favorite dinners too. So, here it is!
This dish is quick and easy to make, delicious, light, healthy, and full of savory flavor. Thanks, Forrest! ❤️
Serve 2~3
Ingredients
1 iceberg lettuce
2 tbsp canola oil or vegetable oil
1 lb lean ground turkey
1 large onion, finely chopped
1 large garlic clove, finely chopped (about 1 tbsp)
about 1 tbsp ginger, peeled and finely chopped or grated
1/4C hoisin sauce
2 tbsp low sodium soy sauce
2 tbsp rice wine vinegar
1 (8 oz) can water chestnuts, drained and chopped
1/2 bunch green onions, finely chopped
1 tsp sesame oil
Instructions
Rinse whole lettuce leaves and pat them dry, being careful not to tear. Set aside.
In a medium skillet over high heat, brown the ground turkey in oil, stirring often. Reduce heat to medium if needed. Transfer the meat to a bowl and set aside. (I use a strainer to drain the fat, but this is optional.)
Cook onion in the same pan, stirring frequently. Stir in garlic, ginger, soy sauce, hoisin sauce, and vinegar and cook for 1~2 minutes.
Stir in water chestnuts, green onions, sesame oil, and cooked turkey. Simmer for about 15~20 minutes. Serve in lettuce. That’s it!
